The Morne, in the South West of Mauritius, is famous for it’s majestic rocky summit. It was the refuge for slaves on the run for many, many years. Legend has it that, when the British soldiers marched up the mountain to announce the abolition of slavery, they threw themselves from the summit so as not to be retaken. Today, the Morne is also the name of a typical Creole village: football pitch, friendly restaurants, beautiful gardens, fishing boats….
